II. INTRO
Juan Pablo:
– Says:
"Dear Friends / Queridos Amigos,
We are truly blessed today to witness the marriage of such kindred souls and such beloved friends. For many years we have seen the light of their companionship blossom and grow in the all too distant East and, today, in the farthermost West, their love has come to bloom in these lands, thankfully, closer to all of us.
Alejandro and Arwen have been together for some years now, nurturing each other and growing jointly. They came from different corners of the earth, met in France, and, now, in the newest stage of their journey, they find themselves here getting married. Getting married, simply, because they so desire it. Without any of the platitudes one tends to bring up in these circumstances.
I say, "They are getting married." I do not say "bonding their fates together" as one is wont to do in these occasions. Their fates were already bonded together before this day, a long time ago, when they decided that their love and their commitment was real and deserved to be preserved. Their fates are bonded together by their willingness to be together.
I say, "They are getting married." I do not say they are "consecrating their love to each other". Holiness does not spring from right ceremony but from right action and right intention. Their love, being true and real, has been consecrated a long time before.
I say "They are getting married." I do not say they are "fulfilling the potential of their love." I am sure that their love and companionship is far, very far from achieving its final potential.
So when I say "they are getting married." What am I really saying? I am saying that they have decided to add a new aspect to their relationship. They have decided to sing in a different key, to add a new gear to their journey. By this I do not mean that they have abandoned their old harmonies or will not be able to shift back to their old gears. They still remain the companions, the lovers, and the restless travelers of Ivry Sur Seine. Today, however, they learn a new song. A difficult song, albeit a beautiful one. A song which will meld with your other songs to strengthen them and enrich them. You will be companions and lovers and fellow travelers but married. Bound by law and by your own willingness to stay together to help each other reach the place of your heart's desire. Committed, in front of everyone, to each other in a new way as well as in all the other old, wonderful ways of your shared past. And hopeful for a full future: full of promises and full of each other.
We, who are privileged and honored to witness your taking this new step also commit ourselves to help you and, in with whatever wisdom we have acquired, advice you in this new travel. We are sure that with such wonderful travel partners as you, this will be one most blessed journey.
And, thus, since you are getting married, with the optimism and joy your union gives us all, I bless you.
May this marriage refresh your previous relations as lovers, companions and fellow travelers.
May the wind be always on your backs, pushing you forward so you can get where you want, tousling your hair so you never take yourselves too seriously, and filling your lungs with air so you can sing together.
May you be granted a thousand fold the joy and love that you have shared until now.
May your unity be a source of happiness and fulfillment without forgetting that you are very different. That companionship means a conscious effort of joining the other and not a natural melding of the souls. That happiness is the coming together of our different directions and not the unanimous marking of a single compass.
May you be granted patience, vision and understanding to bike around the rough patches of the road.
May you always have a spare tire in your souls to fix whatever breaks on the way.
May you always have the loving embrace of your friends and families around you.
May you always allow yourselves time to be surprised by the landscape.
May your home be a temple and a castle where your values blossom prosperously and safely.
May your union contribute to the improvement of your community and the world.
May wherever you end up in this globe be a place of blessing and love.
Now,
algunas palabras en español…."

"By your vows you have expressed that you have both come freely, willingly and happily to this relationship. That from this day on your lives will not be separate but shared, in the burdens and in the joys, both in the eyes of each other and in the eyes of the community. That your commitment to each other will withstand the test of time and of adversity and will bloom into a full life of love, companionship, and mutual fulfillment.
